If watching a fellow facing indifference/rejection in the slums of Berlin didn't convey enough pathos, Gerhard Lamprect gathered much of the same crew from Die Verrufenene and turned his attention to the city's population of unwanted children for the heart-tugging Die Unehelichen, released the following year. The trio of foster children at the center of Die Verrufenene are survivors who use their own resourcefulness to get by when the kids' guardians and the system itself let them down.
This Brechtian musical about a young woman who flees from her decrepit, noble fiancé and marries a sailor is an interesting, although not a completely successful attempt to translate the sort of stage show to film. It has some good points, including the complete abandonment of the sort of surrealistic stage design that had enlivened the silent cinema. Instead, this tries for a purely cinematic technique, including multiple exposures, undercranking and distorting camera angles and lenses. (imdb)

Der Fall Rosentopf was one of a series of films in which the character of Sally, portrayed by Lubitsch, appeared. This character often came from a small town to a big city as a small apprentice, for example, and subsequently rose through the social ranks.
A woman (Lil Dagover) who has lost her husband falls in love again, but is bitterly opposed by her daughters especially the title figure who can’t stand the thought of seeing her mother going into a relationship with another man. Those who want to see if Schünzel can pull of drama as easily as he does comedy should give it a try.
The clerk of Nuremberg wants to use his position to marry the young Evchen, but she does not love him and to avoid this marriage she asks the village shoemaker to ask for her hand in marriage. But everything becomes complicated when a nobleman of noble birth appears who has fled from his family castle.
