Love My Life (2006) - Rated 08 May 2025
"Based on a manga of the same name, I really enjoyed this. I liked how it gave a glimpse into the different societal/social pressures that the characters face given they are in the LGBTQ+ community while also focusing on the connection and cutesy romance stuff that goes on as well. It's a nice slice of life, it's pretty light; it has a warm and endearing energy."
Nosferatu (2024) - Rated 03 Jan 2025
"I feel like there's a mix of things I liked and things I didn't. I didn't like how the vampire looked for starters, wasn't too keen on the 2 leads they had some awkward chemistry and honestly there were too many modern Hollywood horror-isms in this. That being said still had some amazing visuals and atmosphere to make up for whatever nitpicks I had. The supporting cast was very entertaining as well. Still a strong horror movie and very creepy."
The Deer Hunter (1978) - Rated 25 Dec 2024
"It may not be the most historically accurate movie (Russian Roulette for starters) but I think the strength of this movie (ironically the Russian Roulette allegory) is how it portrays dehumanizing effects of war, you see the characters and what they symbolize from beginning to end makes it a really impactful viewing experience. Very bleak movie, a strange choice to watch with my mother on Christmas eve"
Cats (1998) - Rated 06 Dec 2024
"There's something inexplicably unhinged about this that makes it entertaining on many levels. I have tried to reconcile my feelings towards this but accepted it's just escapism for me and I love it for that reason."
Anora (2024) - Rated 06 Dec 2024
"This was quite the experience and one of the movies I had to think about for a bit afterwards because it was a lot to process. There's a lot happening here, truly a rollercoaster of a story and one that is equal parts entertaining as it is thought provoking. It subverted my expectations. I thought that Mikey Madison was fantastic in this movie and her performance helped drive the emotional moments of this movie home. This hit pretty hard and close to home at times on an emotional level."
Possibly in Michigan (1983) - Rated 01 Dec 2024
"This is a really surreal, strangely humorous and dark. I love how nightmarish this is. It's a bit disorienting as well, very much up my alley in terms of the kinds of things I like. It speaks for itself."
Rent (2005) - Rated 30 Nov 2024
"Pretty good musical with depressing subject matter. Retains some of the cast from the original stage play which is really cool. I thought it was pretty good. I liked the performances and thought the story came across well."
Wicked (2024) - Rated 28 Nov 2024
"I wasn't sure what to expect going into this. I got caught up on some Wicked lore to prepare myself for what was to come, and I was very impressed. I thought the songs were really good-great, the performances by both leads were excellent. I thought it had a very well done story as well and did a great job exploring it's themes. Despite being close to 3 hours it didn't feel like it was that long. I had a great time seeing this movie, even as I felt emotional during it numerous times."
Barbie (2023) - Rated 28 Nov 2024
"I can't believe I forgot to rank this until now. I saw it back in theatres when it came out. I thought it was a lot of fun, I enjoyed the humor and how bright everything was. I thought the story was good as well. The cast was very entertaining."
The Substance (2024) - Rated 27 Oct 2024
"The themes resonate and hit pretty hard in this one. This was very vibrant while also being extreme. There are some really cool nods/references to other movies which I appreciated a lot. The performances are all great, there are moments of comedic absurdity throughout but the underlying bleakness of it all is pretty striking. It absolutely delivers with excellent practical effects and grotesque visuals, I really loved this."
