"Good riddance to the MCU blue and grays. Here we have color grading that is bright, colorful, and appropriately superhero-like-- a movie that embraces all the wonder of a comic book. Sometimes to a fault. Superman is so self-consciously inspirational that when it tries to portray itself as punk radical optimism, I can't help but roll my eyes (time for dozens of mediocre Youtube video essays to pop up about that). Still, I enjoy a superhero movie that doesn't look dull or feel pointlessly gritty."

"The story feels condensed; there are underbaked plot elements that even just 15 more minutes of screentime could flesh out for the better. The movie uses clever shorthands to sprint through these weaker parts of the script, like soaring musical numbers and playful parody. When this is done well, the movie gets its best scenes, which feel like fond tributes to K-pop, K-dramas, mythology, and musicals."
