Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017) - Rated 23 Jun 2025
"Honestly more fun than it deserved to be. I giggled. Like the target audience. I'll admit it. (saw this in anticipation of Dog Man)"
Descendants: The Rise of Red (2024) - Rated 23 Jun 2025
"No, it was not good. Some of the songs are a little catchy, but the dancing, the effects, the writing, the performances, just all kind of lackluster."
Lilo & Stitch (2002) - Rated 25 May 2025
"Watched as homework for the live remake. The human character designs and animating challenges make this pretty wild. None of the characters seem like they come out of the standard Disney toolkit, which is quite nice. And the strength of the sisters relationship makes you wonder why they took so long to revisit the theme (to weaker effect) in Frozen."
Is It Cake? (2022) - Rated 13 May 2025
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities (2022) - Rated 28 Apr 2025
"Watched over several months. These are all period pieces with amazing set direction, each with a different tone, theme, quality, and, frankly, a level of gore. As an anthology, it does its job of potentially exposing you to new creators and ideas. My appreciation of horror as a genre is more in the abstract, so I am not sure what is merely interesting in this set, but there are a few pieces that are either fun or give you something to chew over."
The Murmuring (2022) - Rated 28 Apr 2025
"Relatively subdued compared to the rest of the series, almost tasteful, or too tasteful as others might put it. But also another heartfelt period piece. At least it's not "Done In by Dunlins""
Sam & Cat (2013) - Rated 12 Apr 2025
"Mostly absurdity executed with ineptitude. Some sentiment points for somehow getting Marshall and Williams on-screen together again."
To Be and to Have (2002) - Rated 08 Apr 2025
Zero Effect (1998) - Rated 26 Mar 2025
The Viewing (2022) - Rated 19 Mar 2025
"It's nice to see Charlene Yi and Eric André get work like this, even if playing somewhat to type. This probably is meant to play like chamber horror, but the dialogue utterly fails to draw the viewer into any of the players, the 1979 setting seems like an afterthought (it literally needs to be spelled out). Neat set and fantastic music does not pull this stiffly performed piece (except for Weller, clearly having a blast) out of the ordinary."
