"A quiet sincerity."

"Once you get past the pilot that looks to be passing itself off as more Wars than Trek in its pace, kid friendly appeal, and those droid / stock bad dudes you get to some very good stuff (good stuff = the best of the Kurtzman era btw). Not like that bar is high at all by it’s something….. and of course that means it gets cancelled."

"Look. The train."
95% Dune Dune (2021) - Rated 22 Mar 2024
"Ah, Dune. So steeped in mysticism, prophecy, mythology, political machinations, galactic economics, & its own hero thesis that anyone should be able to guess why past experiences with this material went sideways. I come out mostly positive on the sound design with a wish they could have went more bizarre with the Harkonnens. Every other element had me transfixed. Now I’m gonna cross my fingers that this garners enough success for the insane brilliance of the 4th book to be made please christ."

"I have a huge soft spot for educational Peanuts material (as my 6-8 yr old self was the proud owner of the 15 volume Charlie Brown ‘Cyclopedia set). Also gets the bump for recreating the animation / humor of the old stuff splendidly & having a perfect length per episode."

"A bit of an eye raise after It Follows’ cringe. I really like some of the ideas / atmosphere here."
31% Wyatt Earp Wyatt Earp (1994) - Rated 28 Mar 2010
"Designed to put people into Costner-induced comas; Dennis Quaid was quite good, though. It's not necessarily 'bad', as much as it's bland all over, for over three hours. I could never have watched this fully on my own."
80% The Misfits The Misfits (1961) - Rated 07 Jun 2010
"Contains considerable stretches of brilliance that never quite get sustained on the while. Monroe, Clift, & Gable are so perfect for these roles that it hurts. One negative - a rewatch revealed Eli Wallace’s characters to be distractingly out of place as the plot progresses and ultimately unnecessary."
16% Star Trek: Picard Star Trek: Picard (2020) - Rated 23 Feb 2024
"Never forget. season 2."
80% The Irishman The Irishman (2019) - Rated 01 Dec 2019
"In which Scorsese takes a look at the culture and movies he is most known for and does not like what he sees. There is no excitement left to be had, very little humor. We shall put up these characters and now watch them rot and die for us all. If Scorsese ever makes another gangster movie it’s gonna be closer to Gertrud than Goodfellas. Also, Hugo > Irishman."
