Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe (2026) - Rated 23 Jul 2026
The most frenetic end to a movie since End of Evangelion. (Hope you've watched the necessary three shows and two movies to follow along at home.) I'd write about the four montages, two of which bookend the film, but I only have 500 characters.

Thunderbolts* (2025) - Rated 23 Jul 2026
There's a brief scene in this movie where a new father spends more time on his phone than with his child. I wonder what percentage of people who have watched this movie missed that scene because they were on their phone.

Black Panther (2018) - Rated 18 Jul 2026
This movie ends with a thud, and I thought I was prepared for that, but the jokes about opening a charter school don't actually do it justice. Everything else is the better end of Marvel, whatever that counts for.

Mississippi Burning (1988) - Rated 18 Jul 2026
Well acted, but its storytelling is incredibly nihilistic. Thanks to the subject matter it manages to stick the landing, but try not to think too hard about it.

Minions & Monsters (2026) - Rated 18 Jul 2026
This is the best movie about how talkies ruined the medium with a throwaway joke about Irish Catholics, Lovecraftian horrors, and extraterrestrial robots that raw dog. Dare you to prove me wrong.

Perfect Blue (1998) - Rated 07 Oct 2025
A movie confident enough in itself to have a strip club montage straight out of Andrea Dworkin's Intercourse and an enthusiastic embrace of conventional beauty standards with regards to its depictions of criminality and violence. You are never going to find your footing while watching this one.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX: Beginning (2025) - Rated 01 Mar 2025
Like most of the Gundam adaptation movies, I'd wait until you've seen the show before watching this. Anyway, depicting a semi-victorious Zeon as operating much in the same way as the U.S. during the Cold War (e.g. supporting independent states but largely undermining their sovereignty, selling them outdated weapons platforms) shows that Universal Century Gundam still has the juice. And since Anno wrote this, yes, the most powerful institutions in the world complain about budget overruns.

Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (1994) - Rated 29 Jan 2025
The third act is a little rough, but everything before then is sufficiently campy fun. Ken is NOT a terrorist!

Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie (1999) - Rated 29 Jan 2025
I genuinely do not know what I watched, but it fucking ruled.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (2024) - Rated 27 Dec 2024
I feel like a movie that's ostensibly about a woman forging her own way within quite difficult social and political confines but ends with her answering a summons from a male-presenting Maiar is kind of undercutting itself. Probably should have taken more gender studies courses in university.
