Inception (2010) - Rated 28 Aug 2010
I would dare to say that exactly 97.8% of people who have seen this movie finished it and their immediate reaction was a variation of "wtf" and "my mind just exploded". This mind-blowing movie was so far from the ordinary that I had to see it at least three times to even comprehend it. "Inception" has probably inspired our generation to attempt "extraction"; whether this is a good thing or bad is totally debatable. My one quandary with this movie is it's a very stereotypical Leo DiCaprio role.

Up (2009) - Rated 28 Aug 2010
Talk about a depressing children's movie! But don't get me wrong, this movie is by far my favorite pixar movie. It's a perfect mix of sadness (right in the beginning, too) and absolutely adorable hilarity. Who can resist small, grumpy, men and tubby boyscouts? The creativity of this movie also surprised me, especially since I haven't seen a pixar movie that has made me giggle this much or let out multiple "awes" in a few years.

A Beautiful Mind (2001) - Rated 28 Aug 2010
In my opinion, this was by far the best role Russell Crowe has played in his entire acting career. The movie was beautiful and tricky. The fact that it mirrored a true story also made it that much more attention grabbing. The thought that such a detrimental medical diagnoses of schizophrenia was overcome by this brilliant man made me believe that there should be no reason for any person to be unable to accomplish anything. Anyone interested in medical miracles should see this movie, immediately.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008) - Rated 28 Aug 2010
Prepare for a cultural awakening. "Slumdog Millionaire" follows an intense story of two struggling Indian brothers looking for an escape from their ruthless Indian culture and, after much tension, left me with a new appreciation for underdogs. Along with this intense plot, the way this movie integrated the main character's story with the oh-so-popular "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" was also entertaining in a complete heart-wrenching way.

(500) Days of Summer (2009) - Rated 26 Aug 2010
This is not your average romantic comedy, I promise. The awkwardness of the main characters' unserious yet complicated relationship just adds to the humiliating humor of the situations throughout the movie. If you like The Smiths, greeting cards, awkward eye contact, random dance sequences, and bittersweet endings, then this is the movie for you.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006) - Rated 26 Aug 2010
Never have I seen the ideas of family struggles, fauns, eyeless monsters, and innocent imaginations combined...until now, obviously. Even though the entire movie is in subtitles, the genius of Mexican film-maker Guillermo Del Toro introduces a new way to experience fairy tales and, after straining your eyes and covering them occasionally, leaves you in awe. Squeamish and poor sited people, beware.
