"Someone said the short story works a lot better than this film, and I can definitely imagine that. The concept in its absurdity is interesting. The film isn't bad, and some things, such as some of the directorial choices and the acting, are even quite good, but it really does feel more like an interesting concept rather than a movie worth shooting. There are films that have made this "guy tells a story" thing work, but I don't think this movie really succeeds."
60 17% The Guest (2014) - Rated 10 Jun 2024
"Dan Stevens seems to get a lot of praise here and I'm not quite sure why. Otherwise the movie is alright, kind of like a throwback to an old B-slasher, mainly in a good way. But to me it felt like Stevens is trying to do something he can't at all pull off throughout the movie."
60 17% Godzilla Minus One (2023) - Rated 02 Jun 2024
"Yeah, it's better than most Godzilla movies. But it's still a bunch of cliches and a monster roaring every now and then."
88 85% Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) - Rated 26 May 2024
"Definitely too long, and not quite as strong as Fury Road, but very very close."
75 58% Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) - Rated 29 Apr 2024
"I don't know, while I've been more or less entertained by the previous movies, this felt somehow too by-the-book. The story progresses a little bit too neatly, the action is fine but pretty much what you'd expect, etc etc. The only thing "new" is the antagonist, which gives this a semi-interesting little twist, but because the movie doesn't really go anywhere with it (it's Part One after all), even that feels like it's lacking."
78 61% Reptile (2023) - Rated 21 Apr 2024
"A very good movie. Del Toro was excellent and Alicia Silverstone - whom I think I haven't seen in ages - was a very positive surprise as well. The storyline gets a bit convoluted, and some of its details might not fully work, but at the same time I quite enjoyed how it didn't spoon-feed everything and left certain things open. Loses its grasp a little bit as the movie goes on, but was still gripping enough to keep me intrigued. Solid tense atmosphere throughout."
77 59% The Gentlemen (2020) - Rated 13 Mar 2024
"Pretty good but ultimately not very memorable. Far behind the greats like Snatch, but solid cast and entertaining enough. I usually don't like Charlie Hunnam, but even he was decent in this."
75 58% Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) - Rated 11 Mar 2024
"Surprisingly mediocre all in all. The cinematography, the acting, set design and overall production values are top notch, and the story deserves to be told. However, the narrative feels weirdly inconsistent and incoherent. At no point can I really pinpoint what this movie is really about, not because it does a great job at covering a number of themes but rather because it feels it's not focusing on anything. Also, you could cut 30-60 minutes and have the same film - if not even better."

75 58% American Fiction (2023) - Rated 06 Mar 2024
"It was pretty good but I expected more. It was more funny than I expected, but the drama side didn't really go anywhere. The cast was good and I have no major grievances, it just felt like a neat little movie that had a cool idea that didn't quite work. Probably had my expectations too high."
