Generally I rate films/shows/shorts as if I was grading a paper. Nothing's ever gotten 100, and most settle in the B- to C+ range, which I generally consider decent.

I've rated a handful of 0's, though.

"Follows a similar theme of how suppression doesn't lead to healthy development. It's got very creative ideas about the workings of the inner mind, this one obviously more focused on being a teen and fitting in among friends. I had one small quibble about the unanswered 'Riley's dark secret' that was answered at the end of credits, so stay for that. Liked the new emotional forces in this one for the most part. Best Disney/Pixar film to come out in many years."

"Cute for what it is, nothing's ever laugh out loud funny."

"A disappointing mess. The animation is plain and uninspired, even while trying to dazzle. This is especially true of the characters. The conflict is fabricated where it doesn't feel organic, so the 'villain' ends up feeling unbalanced and 2 dimensional. There is no unique point to make, there's just... no inspiration, here, it feels vague and lacking direction. The only thing I wish for is a better movie, I'd gladly give it over just so I could forget."

"Boiled down, it's about identity and expectation and being confined in ways where you know you aren't happy, and finding ways to do something about that, even when the world's too big a stage for us to usually effect, so instead, we choose how we regard ourselves, and others. On top of all that, it's funny, it's incredibly self-aware of the world and its power structures. All the while Mattel's a hell of a good sport while it tells this tale through the eyes of its dolls."

"Loses 10 points for Christopher Walken as King Louie, Shere Khan's motives are a little fuzzier at parts- but I liked a lot of the rest of it- I thought Baloo especially was much more fleshed out for motive."
