66% Nightbreed (1990) - Rated 03 Jan 2015
"Works well as a spectacle. Ridiculous and entertaining. Clive Barker's direction is rough and unfocused, obviously a first film. Despite that, the film is fun and runs with its concept. Barker's trademark monster design is full bore. Makeup effects can be tacky but still entertaining to observe. Performances range from awkward to hammy. Cronenberg is beyond fun to watch. Cliffhanger ending and jilted assembly makes it imperfect, but the Director's Cut is a good time."
0% The Woman in Black (2012) - Rated 03 Jan 2015
"Dull. Not scary in the slightest, you know it's bad if the jump scares don't even work. Radcliffe is dopey and spends most of his time staring or contributing little. Pacing is fairly irregular and editing needs work. Decent cinematography provide silver lining, but despite that the film lacks atmosphere, no dread, no tension, no creepiness, hollow. The antagonist is simultaneously poorly explained and represented. Not worth seeing."
33% The Imitation Game (2014) - Rated 03 Jan 2015
"Alright is a good word. Good performance from Benedict, presence and fun to watch, the film is very predictable and has some trite scenes. Oversimplification in some scenes made characters seem dim for supposed geniuses. Editing and pacing was great. Some performances and conflicts were ineffective and lacked intensity. Fairly inaccurate portrayal, but it is a dramatization and does an adequate job of revealing one of history's greatest men. Worth seeing on a lazy afternoon."
