Videodrome
Videodrome (1983) - Rated 30 Dec 2024
"This movie tells the tale of flesh and technology being inexplicably intertwined; it tells of humans becoming so reliant on technology, that's it's difficult to know where we begin and where the computer starts. In an age where you can go into Google and find videos of fireing squads gunning down rows of people, in an age where you can find the pervasiveness of torture within your fingertips. "videodrome" tells our future so well, that the things it was warning of look tame to our corrupted eyes"

"This movie is about choices. To do this, or to do that; though I argue that having only two choices, is no choice at all. A choice implies free will, and free will cannot be confined into two options. If a decision must be made, fascism will call it free will while giving you two choices and allowing only one. Because fascists, even under the guise of free will, cannot imagine more than two choices."

"I think I need a rewatch to give this any higher. But already this film demands and garners my attention. It truly feels like something special. It has the greatest jim carrie performance to ever grace theaters; it also had an often underrated performance by Kate Winslet and Kirsten dunst. Themes of love persevering through memory are beautiful and make me, if just for a short while, proud to be human."

"Nothing systematically was solved. The system in this movie does, and probably always will continue to discriminate against people with certain genetics. This isn't about systemic toppling, it's about one man fighting with his limited lifespan, not just go prove everyone else wrong, but to prove himself right."

"Idk man. Do I rate this movie based off of what I believe, or how well the movie preaches its beliefs? Do I look past its shining strengths, and superfulously point at its flaws? There is no right answer, but there is an answer, and this film gives an answer. It doesn't matter if it's right. It matters that it is given."
