Shahrukh Khan plays himself-but-not as a movie star, and also the fan of the same movie star. the film weaves reality (like the birthday crowds filmed outside Shahrukh's house) with fiction. It may see unbelievable, but the least believable parts are the ones actually based in reality."

"It's a good movie, but the more I rewatch it, the less I like it. Hirani tends to these pat simple answers to complex problems, while avoiding placing blame. The forces that drive and profit from the education system are never questioned, or punished. And the female characters are after thoughts, their concerns not confronted."
