The visual aesthetic carries the movie to a passable rating. The doll thing could have worked if the plot was structured differently, if the villain had screen time earlier. If horror movies are gonna keep inserting satanism, maybe stop regurgitating tropes and think of something unique for once.

Jason Bateman captures the character of a narcissist pretty well in this movie. Rebecca Hall plays off it well as her character realizes their significant other is inhuman and irredeemable. The ending is a bit messy.

I respect the effort put into the scenery and the two main characters relationship. I can even respect toning down the western tropes to feel more authentic. The forced romance drags the film down. I know the purpose that character was supposed to fulfill, but they failed to fulfill it. If the movie cut the romance and the runtime, it would have been better.
