Bio: Ratings are my subjective enjoyment. Low ratings not meant as hate, just my taste. If you like something I didn't, I'm still glad you found something in it. Some older ratings and reviews I ought to update but haven't yet. My tastes and gripes have changed over time.

The Last of Us (2023) - Rated 27 Aug 2025
"(S1, 9 eps; unfamiliar with the computer game it's based on) Nice sets and amazing post-apocalyptic landscapes. I didn't find Joel interesting at first, but got more invested in his character later. It had a few too many dull scenes early on, but it didn't bother me after the first couple episodes once I got into it. Sometimes the frequent use of strong language felt forced, and a bit distracting or out of place. Had some really excellent tension in parts."

Catwoman (2004) - Rated 20 Aug 2025
"Visually stylish. I liked the way it integrated the look of beauty-industry ads, though it seemed like it had a neglected potential to make a critique of beauty standards. Exciting action sequences. Enjoyed the music. I liked the dual-identity plot; that plus the cat theme and costume reminded me of Miraculous."

The Marvels (2023) - Rated 20 Aug 2025
"I liked seeing all the different worlds and how colorful and funny a lot of it was. It got a little slow for a bit when it was more serious toward the end but I enjoyed it!"

Captain Marvel (2019) - Rated 20 Aug 2025
"I liked the lead character, and a lot of it was entertaining. I found it occasionally confusing, though. The aesthetics were mostly sci-fi and space opera. The cat was a fun addition."

Madame Web (2024) - Rated 19 Aug 2025
"Engaging throughout, with a first half that was scary & tense, and a second half full of exciting action. Solid relationships between the characters, with nice emotional stories. Loved the hero, very cool powers. Successfully integrates the style of the action thriller genre a la White House Down; I'd like if more superhero movies would do that. Product placement was a bit obtrusive. Occasionally I found a couple side characters' acting clunky, but I liked the performances of all the heroes."

Superman (2025) - Rated 16 Aug 2025
"Some nice action sequences. I liked when he was flying a lot. Felt more "cartoony" than I expected, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. A bit white-savior-y. Romance side-plot felt undercooked. Found it interesting how Superman's extremely kind on a macroscopic level, and simultaneously somewhat humanly-flawed in direct interpersonal level."

DearS (2004) - Rated 10 Aug 2025
"Mostly fun. A bit kinky. Interesting philosophical elements, but underexplored. Male lead both frustrating & interesting to me. Seemed at first like he was set up for character development that wasn't paid off much, but wonder if it was meant to examine how little we'd understand the values & desires of aliens, & how those align with humans'. I kept wishing it would explore that underlying theme more deeply, more like some omegaverse stories, particularly in how it intersects with gender roles."

The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made (2021) - Rated 09 Aug 2025
"S1 (12eps), my rating 63: Sweet and fun show. The characters are mostly good at communicating with each other, so misunderstandings don't get dragged out. It mostly avoids the usual pitfalls of the harem genre by having it be closer to a poly relationship. While queer characters are mostly played for comedy, it's way more sympathetic than usual, and acceptance of difference is a central theme. S2 (12eps), my rating 45: Mostly dull and lost the charm of S1 for me, but last two episodes were nice."

Deadpool 2 (2018) - Rated 03 Aug 2025
"(extended cut) I'm a bit conflicted about how to score this. There's a lot that I really liked in this movie, and some things I didn't really like. Great theme song. It's hard to root for leads that don't seem to care at least a little about the wellbeing of background characters. I'm not sure why everyone was being a jerk to Dopinder. I think my taste in humor has somewhat shifted away from this style a bit since I saw the first movie, probably, though I did still get quite a few laughs."

Thunderbolts* (2025) - Rated 02 Aug 2025
"I liked the way they handled Bob's character. Nice story. Reminded me a bit of Nimona. Not sure they needed quite as much smoke in that early action scene; made it a bit hard to see. I wasn't really thinking the Red Guardian's character fit at first but I came around on him by the end."
