Black Widow (2021) - Rated 08 Jul 2021

This poor send-off to Black Widow calls into question whether she ever even had enough depth, and the actress enough charisma, to expect that she could hold us for two long hours. After a powerfully emotional opening, I struggled to engage with anything that followed. The producers were VERY bold to think they had a worthwhile super-spy adventure on their hands when Bond, Bourne, and Mission Impossible set the standard. "Because it's in the MCU," is the only real answer to "Why even watch this?"

Eternals (2021) - Rated 05 Nov 2021

Finally it's here: Marvel's own Batman Vs Superman. Endlessly long, it groans under the weight of its own seriousness and epic pretensions. It toys with some philosophical questions without really asking or answering anything. It's beautifully shot - but with barely 15 minutes of actual story spread throughout the length of the movie. By the time the final battle came I realised with horror "I don't care. I don't know who any of these people are and I don't care what happens next." Appalling.
