Defending Your Life

Not that one should really be shocked but it’s amazing how well Brooks is able to create such a warm atmosphere given how acidic his usual works are but there was always that tenderness underneath I supposed. Obviously you still have a pretty sardonic premise of the entire thing with the afterlife being treated in such an itemized way. Where you’re basically numbers on a stat sheet. Sometimes one can forget the power of Streep when you haven’t seen her like this in a while. Just so effortlessly funny and just radiates the screen. Kinda realized about halfway thru just how much (maybe without realization for most people) modern comedic timing is in Brooks’ shadow. His sort of subdued rambling sarcasm the slight exasperation. Rip Torn is a delight and his comedic chemistry with Brooks is top notch. The romance while silly was quite charming. This movie working seems like a miracle.
