Not that there was ever anything “radical” or whatever word you’d use like that to describe Charli’s music but there’s was a complete evaporation of anything innovative when it came to BRAT outside of its marketing but even that sort of critical pop darling turns superstar exploited for political gains is wearing a bit thin in this modern era of “my fellow kids” strategy the demonrats are always attempting every four years and this movie doesn’t really escape that for me. You have some abrasive nods to the works of Noe without any of his edge (for better or worse depending on your own care for that auteur) that kind of sum up the entire motif of BRAT as a social entity. Entertaining but a disappointment if you truly care about art. Danger with a million parachutes. Potshots taken at easy targets and no actual depth to your anger. Decently funny and Charli is just endlessly cool so it kinda did work on me in a sucker (wink wink). Even Sean Price Williams is in more music video mode than his usual cinematic voice coming out thru his cinematography which isn’t bad but again could’ve been utilized in a lot more daring way if anyone had any guts anymore.
