Desire is awful. It is the kind of film that makes you wonder why nobody stopped during production and asked whether any of it made sense. The screenplay is embarrassing, the characters are unbearable and the performances turn almost every scene into something unintentionally ridiculous.

The story tries to present itself as an erotic thriller about a wealthy woman who feels trapped in her apparently perfect life and begins a relationship with a younger swimming coach. Then come secrets, jealousy, blackmail, recordings, death and a series of twists that are supposed to increase the tension. The problem is that nothing feels believable from the beginning.

There is no eroticism because the sex scenes have no sensuality, chemistry or emotion. There is no suspense because the characters behave so absurdly that nothing can be taken seriously. There is no real drama either, because every conflict is written with astonishing shallowness. There are only unpleasant people making stupid decisions so the film can continue.

Ludwika Paleta is very poor. Her character should convey dissatisfaction, desire, fear and contradiction, but everything is reduced to intense looks, solemn lines and sudden changes of attitude. José María Yazpik cannot bring credibility to a husband written like another piece in a cheap soap-opera plot.

Óscar Casas is even worse. There is no chemistry with Paleta, no danger, no mystery and nothing that explains why his character would cause such chaos. He mostly poses, stares and delivers dialogue that was already terrible on the page and sounds even worse when spoken.

The screenplay is the real disaster. Every twist requires the characters to forget what happened minutes earlier, ignore basic logic or accept situations that any normal person would solve with one phone call. The film wants to seem twisted but only becomes clumsy. It wants to shock but remains boring and timid. By the final act, it is almost a parody.

Everything also feels fake. The houses, conversations, relationships and arguments look like parts of an overlong and very cheap perfume commercial. The polished images are useless because there is no real film underneath them, only lifeless scenes.

Worst of all, it takes itself completely seriously. There is no humor, irony or awareness of how ridiculous everything is. The actors deliver every line as though they were performing a profound drama about desire, guilt and power, while actually appearing trapped inside one of the worst television movies imaginable.

Desire is vulgar, boring, ridiculous and instantly forgettable. It has no compelling characters, no suspense, no erotic charge and not a single performance capable of saving it.
