Some movies just don't know what they want to be, and Holland is a textbook example. It starts off aimlessly, stalls in the middle, and ends exactly where it began: nowhere. It's one of those films that pretends to be more than it is but ends up lost in its own confusion. As much as you might try to find meaning, emotion, or suspense... all you get is boredom.

Nicole Kidman is there, of course. She gives it her all, as always, and that's something. But not even her presence can save this mess. The script is directionless, the pacing is non-existent, and the story can't decide if it wants to be a satire, a drama, a thriller, or just a soulless experiment. Everything feels so forced, so disjointed, it makes you check your watch more often than you'd like.

Some scenes seem crafted just to be "weird" or "shocking," but they lack any real narrative weight. The tone aims for eccentric but never delivers anything truly engaging. There's no tension, no effective dark humor, and no story worth following. It just happens... and leaves nothing behind.

It's a shame, because the talent is there. Kidman, Macfadyen, and Gael García Bernal could've shined with a decent script. But here, they seem adrift in a film that doesn't know what to do with them. In the end, the only thing Holland makes clear is that it's more monotonous than mysterious, and more of a flop than a bold risk.
