This attempt at a psychological thriller fails in practically every respect, becoming one of those films that are tedious even with a relatively short running time. The initial premise could have led to an intriguing story, but the development is slow, insubstantial and lacking any real tension.

Tye Sheridan plays a receptionist with Asperger's syndrome who gets caught up in a criminal investigation. Although the actor tries to give the character nuance, the script constantly drags him into forced situations without the slightest hint of credibility. Ana de Armas, with her magnetic presence, is the only thing that keeps some interest on screen, although her role is reduced to a stereotype with no development or depth.

The main problem with the film is its lack of rhythm and purpose. The plot moves along in fits and starts, without a real sense of urgency or a narrative structure that justifies its twists. The subplots seem scattered and disconnected, while the resolution lacks impact, leaving the feeling that nothing really matters.

Visually, the film doesn't offer anything notable either. The direction is flat and the staging lacks personality, reinforcing the feeling that everything is a generic product with no ambition or identity of its own. Even the elements that could have served to create an atmosphere of suspense are wasted.

In short, The Night Clerk is a failed thriller, boring and soulless, that not even the talent of its cast manages to save. An exercise in empty cinema that will hardly be remembered for anything positive.
