1408
10/12/2026:
This was quite the fun thriller, but perhaps a tad too long. It's also very cliché in its story, and I'm not really that big of a fan of John Cusack. I don't want to be mean, but I plainly don't think he's a good actor. Samuel L. Jackson was fun in this, but he's in it for barely two minutes.
Evil rooms are a neat concept, though, and I love how 1408 tortures John Cusack in some really creative ways. I think my favorite scene is when he first starts to realize that none of this is a trick. The effects are pretty neat and help keep this grounded. A lot of this would be pretty unbelievable if it had janky CGI.
However, I think the way this movie wraps up is very contrived, and I wish we could have seen more of Samuel L. Jackson and John Cusack talking about what happened at the end. Still, it's a solid movie, but it's missing quite a bit to earn a higher score.

Stephen King clearly has a thing about writers and hotels, and 1408 proves he still gets plenty of mileage out of both. John Cusack plays a jaded author who checks into a...
