This was on my watchlist for a while, and I was finally pushed to watch this because enough of my Letterboxd friends loved it. I'm going to be honest and say that I don't like this or understand it at all. Well, to be accurate, I understand it, but I feel it's overhyped and just weird for the sake of being weird. It's hard not to spoil it, but I feel like this movie just insists upon itself and really needs a lot of suspension of disbelief to be enjoyed. I think this was way funnier and grosser than scary or disturbing.

I know that's a bit unfair to this because it is technically well made, and it certainly got reactions out of me, but I was left rather disappointed by this one. The main actress, Kotone Furukawa, is fantastic and gave a great performance, but I just could not buy any of the other actors with any of their material. I also found this to be boring and predictable, but I know that's subjective. It felt like the movie was holding its cards too close to its chest but didn't even bother showing its play. Oh well, it seemed like wasted potential to me, but maybe I will enjoy it more on a rewatch!
