Oh wow, I decided to go back in time and watch one of Ingmar Bergman's older works, as I thought I might have better luck with it. It's better than A Ship to India for a few obvious reasons, but I still found this to be dreadfully boring. I know that dramatic films can be subjective and often come down to personal taste, but I was disinterested in the plot almost immediately and never really became invested.

One aspect I did enjoy was putting the film into historical context, especially knowing that it was released shortly after the end of World War II. That perspective added some intrigue, though I realize that's me doing a bit of extra work to appreciate it.

Visually, the film looks quite good, and none of the performances stood out to me as bad. In the end, though, this simply wasn't for me, and that's okay.
