Deep Blue Sea

I have watched this many many times and I honestly do not understand why this film gets so many low ratings! This is a very fun survival film involving sharks on a sea base with bad ass characters! Sure it has some bad CGI and weird tropes but on the other hand, this film still kicks ass!

This is the best shark movie ever made, and Jaws doesn't hold a candle to it. It's a fast-paced film packed with moral dilemmas, badass action, and surprisingly complex characters. While the science isn't exactly accurate, it's grounded enough to remain fun and believable. The only real flaw is some dated CGI, but the incredible practical gore more than makes up for it, making it easy to overlook.
This movie is far smarter and more creative than it has any right to be, and it's absolutely not a B-movie. The death scenes are all memorable and expertly executed. I also love how well the setting is established. It actually makes sense for the research facility to be located out in the ocean, since sharks don't thrive in small, enclosed tanks. On top of that, the filmmakers chose shortfin mako sharks instead of the usual great whites, which helps the movie stand out.
Preacher steals every scene he's in with his entertaining antics, while Thomas Jane is effortlessly badass through sheer restraint. (Fun fact: Thomas Jane actually swam with a real shark while filming.) Samuel L. Jackson gets one of the most unforgettable moments in horror film history, and it's still incredible every time I watch it. The rest of the supporting cast is solid as well, even if I don't have as much to say about them. And Saffron Burrows? No notes.
