Hellraiser
Oh wow, this was... actually awful. At first, I was disappointed, but this is almost more insulting to Hellraiser than ANY of the other movies. I don't even know where to start. I'm flabbergasted.
The biggest problem with the new Hellraiser is that it understands the aesthetic of the franchise without really understanding what makes it work. The Cenobites look cool, the practical effects are great, but so much of what makes Hellraiser interesting gets lost in the process. The franchise is at its best when it explores obsession, desire, suffering, and the horrifying consequences of pushing those things beyond their limits. Here, everything feels a little too polished, conventional, and sanitized. It has all the pieces of a Hellraiser movie, but it never quite captures the depraved, transgressive magic that made the original so compelling in the first place.
My biggest problem is that this feels like a generic modern horror movie wearing the skin of a Hellraiser movie. It has the aesthetics, the Cenobites, and the gore, but where's the actual substance? I'm so tired of seeing the same basic bitch horror tropes recycled over and over again, and slapping the Hellraiser name on them doesn't make them any more interesting. You would think a remake of Hellraiser wouldn't be so clichéd. It's a whole lot of nothing pretending to be something.
Everything is so dumb and contrived that it's hard to feel any stakes. The Cenobites are hardly a threat and even help the main character for no fucking reason. The new way the configurations work is a major asspull, and somehow, nobody in this movie makes a single good decision. All that stupidity leads to one of the worst payoffs I've ever seen in a horror movie. Quite honestly, fuck this movie. What the hell were they thinking with this one?
I'm just as surprised as you are. I was excited to watch this, but it ended up being one of the worst movies in the entire franchise. Check out my Hellraiser ranked list.

Mini Review: Oh wow, this was... actually awful. It gets Hellraiser's aesthetic but not what makes it work. The Cenobites look cool, but the obsession, desire, and transgression are gone. Instead, it's a horror movie wearing Hellraiser's skin, recycling basic bitch tropes with little substance.
