Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth
"What the fuck is that?!" - Joey Summerskill
I have no idea, Joey Summerskill, played by Terry Farrell, what the fuck was this movie?! I don't even know where to start with this madness....
Okay, so all the acting in this is utter gutter trash except for Doug Bradley as Pinhead, who is still doing his thing. The practical effects are somehow worse and don't look real at all, and the CGI looks like someone opened After Effects for the first time and messed around. The plot, while somewhat sensical, oozes with this try-hard concept of capturing what the first movies were doing. It's like this tried to make everything bigger and better, but it fails to tie anything together in a way that moves the story forward. I'm all for Pinhead going rogue, and it feels like the writer and director were going for a Jason Takes Manhattan type of story.
That's where the movie completely falls apart for me. None of that is earned, and the whole thing is ruined by these awful characters that I don't care about. There's no chemistry between anyone, and the line delivery makes it so I can't take any of this seriously. The main character might be the final girl, but she's nothing like Ashley Laurence. Terry Farrell might be a great actress, but this is the first thing I've seen her in, and she does not have the raw power in her performance that Ashley Laurence had. It was unbelievable seeing her run around doing nothing. All the other characters are similarly weak, with really bare-bones stories.
Honestly, it's quite unfortunate because I think there was a really cool idea in having "hell on Earth," but none of the execution in this was good at all. In fact, I found most of my enjoyment from laughing at how bad this was. The whole movie felt like an awful cartoon. That's the only reason why this isn't getting a lower score, but I think the conflicting tones I discussed here really drag this movie down.

Mini Review: "What the fuck is that?!" -Joey SummerskillWhat the fuck was this movie?! Doug Bradley is still doing his thing, but the acting is gutter trash, the practical effects look fake, and the CGI looks like someone's first After Effects project. I'm all for Pinhead going rogue, but this feels like a failed attempt to make a bigger, better Hellraiser. The characters are awful, Terry Farrell lacks Ashley Laurence's raw power, and the whole thing feels like a terrible cartoon. Least it's fun
