I was very worried I was going to hate this film because the first 24 minutes of this were absolutely dreadful! John Van Eyssen was not very interesting as Johnathan Harker, Christopher Lee was only okay as Dracula, there was a weird sub-plot, it was paced weirdly, and of all things, it had the most ear screeching music ever. Luckily, the films changes perspective relatively quickly, and besides on instance, the music learned to chill the fuck out. Peter Cushing was really great, and although Michael Gough a weaker element, he worked well in the third act! There were also very interesting changes based around the Dracula legend. All and all, this was pretty good, but I don't understand why the first third of this was that bad. I understand people consider this a legendary movie, but the reasons I have heard are not why I liked this film. Peter Cushing was the best part of this film!
Mini Review: I was worried I’d hate this film—the first 24 minutes were dreadful! Van Eyssen was dull as Harker, Lee was just okay as Dracula, the pacing was off, and the music was painfully shrill. Thankfully, the film shifts perspective quickly, and aside from one moment, the score calms down. Peter Cushing was fantastic, and while Gough was weaker, he worked in the third act. Some Dracula lore changes were intriguing. Overall, it was good, but the first act was bafflingly bad. Cushing stole the show.
