Ivan's Childhood
I am going through the Letterboxd top 500 movies and just randomly selected this since it was on Criterion. Oh wow, this is by Andrei Tarkovsky! I love a lot of his films and him fine with a couple.
Yeah, I was not really into this one unfortunately. I didn't like how this began and it didn't intrigue me. I like my World War II movies, but this was just boring and had some awful cinematography in my opinion. It is one of Andrei Tarkovsky's first films so it makes sense it's not as good as he would eventually get. Nothing will ever be as good as Stalker or Andrei Rublev! Beyond the cinematography, this still looked pretty good but there was not much else for me to latch onto. The characters were find but I didn't really like the main kid.
I'll certainly give this another chance, but I would certainly rank it lower among Andrei Tarkovsky's other works!

Mini Review: I'm going through the Letterboxd Top 500 and randomly picked this on Criterion. Seeing that it was directed by Andrei Tarkovsky got me excited since I love most of his films. Unfortunately, this one didn't do much for me. The opening never hooked me, and I found much of it boring despite liking WWII films. Some of the cinematography didn't work for me, though it still looked good overall. I'll give it another chance, but I'd rank it well below Stalker and Andrei Rublev.
