Liverleaf
This is a movie that I have wanted to watch forever because of all the hype I’ve heard about it. I saw that Liverleaf finally got to Tubi, and I had to watch it right away. To be completely honest, I am blown away, and I don’t think I can really do a first review justice, but I’ll try. What surprises me the most is that this is not really a horror movie as much as it’s a revenge thriller. In fact, this might be among my favorite revenge thrillers alongside I Saw the Devil.
Honestly, I was fully prepared to give this an 8/10 or a 9/10, but there’s something about what this movie is and how it ends that hit me just that powerfully. Usually, I don’t like movies about bullying because I find them unrealistic, but this one managed to feel just real enough without going into absurdity. There are absolutely asshole kids like this, and when you add the dynamics from this movie into the mix, things get very complicated. I love all of the characters in this, and Anna Yamada did an excellent job in one of her first performances. The way she can switch her personality from a shy girl to ice-cold is exemplary!
In fact, without going into spoilers, there’s only one thing I don’t like about this film: the CGI blood looks ridiculous at times. It’s strange because all the other practical effects look great, and the blood on the snow looks better than in a lot of other movies. I understand they need to use CGI for safety, but I don’t know why it couldn’t have been redone. The film would be flawless to me if that were the case.
Besides that, though, I love everything about this and could go on endlessly. One thing of note is that I have always liked my yanderes (love-struck psychos), and this movie has a nearly endless supply of them! I see a lot of The World of Kanako in this film, and I adore it for that. Oh, another thing is that this movie is super, super fucked up. You bet it’s going on my list!
I will have to watch this film another time and do a full deep dive. The movie has so much to draw from, and there are probably some things I might have missed. I love this movie way more than I thought I would when it was hyped up for me.

Mini Review: I’ve wanted to watch Liverleaf forever because of all the hype, so when it finally hit Tubi, I had to watch it. I’m blown away. Surprisingly, it’s less of a horror movie and more of a revenge thriller, and it might be one of my favorites alongside I Saw the Devil. The bullying feels disturbingly realistic, the characters are great, and Anna Yamada is fantastic. I love my yanderes, and this movie has plenty! It’s super fucked up, and aside from some awful CGI blood, I absolutely loved it.
