Raining in the Mountain
I didn't really like this at first and thought a lot of it was meandering, but it sort of just clicked for me after a while. It's not like King Hu's other works in a lot of ways and shows way more restraint. I love the simplicity of the plot and how goofy it gets at times. The characters in this are also really entertaining, and there are so many good scenes. King Hu has always gotten good performances and continues to prove his eye for detail in the sets and costumes. I particularly loved all the scenes with the "Criminal" character and thought a lot of those scenes should have been the main bulk of the movie. Some of the goofiness I talked about was a lot of sneaking around in the daylight to get the scroll, but I think it's still pretty funny.
Honestly, this is just a really solid movie that I can't find many issues with. The big one is just that the first 40 minutes drag on, and I'm not too sure they were needed. I could see this going up in score on a rewatch, but for now it will be in the middle of the pack for King Hu films!

Mini Review: I didn't really like this at first and thought a lot of it was meandering, but it sort of just clicked for me after a while. It's unlike most of King Hu's other works and shows far more restraint. I love the simple plot, the entertaining characters, and all the goofy sneaking around. The first 40 minutes drag more than I'd like, but otherwise I can't find many issues. I could definitely see this going up on a rewatch.
