I said I was going to watch Brian De Palma movies this month, and my great Letterboxd friend Val recommended I watch the director's cut of this movie. She said there were a lot of great freak-out moments that are "Nicolas Cage" in nature.

I'm going to be honest and say that I found this to be quite boring, predictable, and honestly cringe. She likes it well enough, but I have never been a fan of John Lithgow. I'm also not too sure what this movie is trying to say about mental illness because, on one hand, it gets a lot of things right, and on the other hand... I don't think this movie fully understands what D.I.D. is. This was just a very messy movie and didn't have a lot in it for me.
Mini Review: Val recommended I watch the director's cut of this as part of my Brian De Palma month, promising some great "Nicolas Cage" freak-out moments. Unfortunately, I found this pretty boring, predictable, and honestly cringe. I've never been a fan of John Lithgow, either. I'm also conflicted about its handling of mental illness. It gets some things right, but I don't think it fully understands D.I.D. Overall, this was just a very messy movie that didn't do much for me.
