Rhapsody in August
3/25/2026:
This is a beautiful meditation of a movie on the Nagasaki bomb and the the many divides between culture and age. It's an interesting movie for the perspective of what Japan thought of the atomic bombs and America in the year 1990. There are many guy punches in this and many amazing moments but I am afraid that the middle act and how this movie ends brings this down a few notches. I love a lot about this but felt that the contemplations that were brought up in this movie did not bring about a satisfying conclusion! This strangely does not feel like an Akira Kurosawa film to me, but I think it was very effective for the most part. I would love to watch this again after learning more about this. The American in this film did an amazing job and spoke perfect Japanese!
