So, this was a 9/10 favorite movie that I adored growing up and watching with my dad and step mother and I have very fond memories of this movie. It also probably helped that Milla Jovovich looks "perfect" in this movie! (Besides the weird aspects of the movie calling her perfect way too much, she really is and I mean that respectfully of course!) So, I rewatched this after 15 years of not watching it and I feel like a lot of the magic is gone. Dont get me wrong, the acting, atmosphere, and charm are all still there but I felt as if at every turn, my idealization of this film was from a teenager that wanted a Sci-Fi epic and ignored a lot of the janky "elements" of this film! Also, weirdly, Chris Tucker is barely in this movie and although he was annoying, it was very passable and not as big of a stain on the movie as I was worried about. In finality, this movie brought back good memories but also seemed a lot more cheesy then I wanted, but the ending was just as confusing as it was when I was a teen lol! :D
Mini Review: This was a 9/10 favorite growing up, with fond memories watching it with my dad and stepmom. Milla Jovovich truly is “perfect,” even if the movie overstates it. Rewatching after 15 years, the magic is dimmer. The acting, charm, and atmosphere hold up, but my teen self ignored the janky elements. Chris Tucker is barely in it and tolerable. It’s cheesier than I remembered, but still fun, and the ending is just as confusing as when I was a teen. Nostalgic, but no longer a perfect 9/10.
