The Phantom Carriage
What a wonderful silent film! I don't normally like films like this and tend to get really impatient, but this just did it for me! It's a very spooky story that I would almost put in the same vein as It's a Wonderful Life. It's just Swedish... and Silent! Also, the double-exposure effect in this is very impressive for 1921! I know how it's done like the back of my hand, but it's still shocking to see it done so well.
My only real complaint is that the English subtitles overlap with the Swedish subtitles on Criterion, and they were hard to read at times. I don't think it would have been that hard to just redo the subtitles for different languages, but oh well. I very much enjoyed this movie and would recommend it if you're into older films!

Mini Review: What a wonderful silent film! I usually get impatient with silents, but this completely won me over. It's a spooky, heartfelt story that almost feels like It's a Wonderful Life-just Swedish and silent. The double-exposure effects are astonishing for 1921; I know how they're done, but seeing them executed so well is still impressive. My only complaint is that the English subtitles overlapped the Swedish ones on Criterion, making them hard to read. Still highly recommended for fans of older films.
