The Skin I Live In
I'm speechless, I am actually speechless!
I managed to hear so many things about this without being spoiled and it exceeded all my expectations. This film is incredibly fucked up and yet I could not take my eyes off the screen. It took my breath away by how bold it was.
Antonio Banderas and Elena Anaya gave some of the greatest performances in this. Elena Anaya in particular had such a challenging job with this and was just perfection the whole movie! She's absolutely stunning in this and the film would not be the same without her!
At first, I thought this was just going to be a regular thriller and then it got more and more messed up, I had no idea why people kept calling this one of the most screwed up movies, but then there's a moment that it clicked for me and I had to pause the movie for a few minutes and walk around for a bit. It's incredibly disturbing.
Because of that, I can't call this anything short of a masterpiece. I have not had these reactions to a film since Eden Lake and I just love movies that can get such an intense reactions out of me. Unlike Eden Lake, I really want to watch this film again with the new perspective I learned of what was happening in this.
I heavily recommend this if you can stomach a intense and messed up story. Just make sure you go in without knowing anything about this. It truly was an amazing movie!
I will need to check out more work done by Pedro Almodóvar!
