The Third Murder

This is actually a very special movie that I am afraid I can't say too much without spoiling a lot of things. This is a very slow burn and is mostly about the trial of a man accused of murder and if he did it or not. The set up is cliché but the execution in this is extremely unique. Trying to piece everything together and making sense of how this ends is one of the most profound feelings I have had in a while. I highly recommend checking this out.

What's also surprising is that this is extremely well paced and for a Hirokazu Kore-eda film, that's very appreciated! He usually meanders and for a slow burn plot to keep my interest is very impressive. Every little detail is important if if you are impatient with this film, you might feel very lost. This is a courtroom drama you do not want to fall asleep to!

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Koji Yakusho is in this and just like everything he's in, he is amazing! He plays the defendant of this murder case and he has such a unique aura around him in this. My compliments to the cinematography in making all the scenes interesting and fascinating to watch! Finally, and I don't know if this is a deep cut but... A lot of this movie reminded me of the anime "Erased" and I was half expecting time travel to come into this film but I am glad this was completely grounded. This gets my full seal of approval and I think most people should check this out if it interests them!
