Troy
I am watching this in preparation for The Odyssey coming out next month. I hadn’t watched this movie in almost 20 years, and this is my first time seeing the director’s cut. It’s not the masterpiece I was hoping for, and it is quite loose with history and the legends, but I still found it to be a very enjoyable epic overall.
The characters are all amazing and the stacked cast in this has some really awesome moments. There's not a single bad role in this except for Orlando Bloom who always seems a little flat when he acts. Rose Byrne was the biggest surprise to me, but she was one of the best stand outs! Also, Sean Bean is great in everything and I wish he was in this more and had his own Odyssey film after this. Oh what could have been...
Even if some of the Bronze Age details aren’t historically accurate, the film still clearly has a lot of care and passion in its design. The costumes, shields, and battle scenes all feel thoughtfully crafted. I especially love the look of Troy’s armor and equipment. It gives the film a distinct visual identity.
One of the best compliments I can give is that even though it’s over three hours long, it never felt boring or uneven. Nothing felt out of place, and every scene seemed to serve a purpose, building toward a strong and satisfying ending.
Overall, this is a solid movie that I don't have too many complaints about. I'll be going into theaters for the new Odyssey movie when I can, but I have middling expectations for it. I'm just not a fan from what I have seen from the trailers and I don't really like many of the actors in it besides Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson. Oh well, it will at the very least be fun to compare it to this film!

At over 3 hours it never drags, and the finale lands well.
