Un homme qui dort
"You're nothing but an uncertain shadow, a hard nugget of indifference, a noncommittal glance evading other glances, with lips that don't speak and eyes gone dead. From now on, the passing reflection of your somnolent life will appear in puddles, in shop windows, and on the glistening bodies of cars."
I am at a bit of a loss for words with this movie. I was in the exact mood portrayed in it, and I got completely stuck in a trance. I don't think I have ever seen a movie that quite captures depression like this. It is very slow and methodical, but the poetry is vivid, and my mind was racing the entire short run-time!
How can one quantify feelings so complex and so personal? Honestly, I thought it was impossible, but this movie grabbed hold of me like no other. The calming and soothing voice adds a dream-like quality, and with the visuals and the prose, this feels like true deep emotions given form.
This work is also very intentional with noise. It starts out quite annoying and loud, and eventually, by the end of this journey, I missed the noise. The silence was so quiet it was deafening, and I wanted it to stop. But by the time it ended, I was questioning my own sense of time and whether I truly missed anything. There is a special power here that I can't describe, but it got me out of the funk I was in tonight, and I hope I can gain more from it on repeat viewings. It might even become one of my favorite movies of all time!
Also, there's only one place you can really watch this, and it's free on YouTube! I strongly urge you to put it on your watch list and try it out whenever you are in a funk. You might be able to commiserate with the main character, or you might be lulled into a more calm state. I hope this movie finds you well, and I hope you all have an excellent day!

Mini Review: I was in the exact mood this portrays and fell completely into its trance. I don't think I've ever seen depression captured so vividly. It's slow and methodical, yet the poetry is so striking that my mind raced the entire runtime. The soothing narration, visuals, and prose give form to emotions that feel impossible to quantify. Its use of sound is brilliant; by the end, the silence felt deafening. Somehow, it pulled me out of a funk and may become a favorite. This is free on YT for ev
