Has Morrow always been such an eerie De Niro sound-a-like? Definitely a case of needing to know what you are getting going in, but it’s difficult to be too critical of a film that wears its Eurotrash sensibilities so proudly (and is intent on having fun with them). It’s really MAD MAX in an urban setting (and was Miller similarly inspired for FURY ROAD by that random drum solo?) and what it lacks in polish, it makes up for in grit and energy, revelling in the overripe performances by all and sundry (and no one matches Williamson’s swagger). Elaborately garish costume design (inspired by The Village People?) just adds to the fun. Ultimately full bore trash, but when it’s done this well, it’s hard to complain.
