A Night at the Opera
Masterful piece of first rate silliness gets its considerable comic energy from its clockwork timing and pacing - from the Brothers themselves, as well as an ideally picked supporting cast with ever-venerable Dumont used less but impeccably this time around. Even the pauses for songs are well done, though arguably Carlisle and Jones really amount to unnecessary window dressing. My love is always for Harpo, and he gets some terrifically cheeky slapstick to work with here, though as always Groucho and Chico are a murderous double act, especially when left to riff by themselves. Possibly the most out-and-out fun I’ve had with a Marx Brothers movie to date.
