Has its moments as a Linklater-lite, but there is an off-putting smarminess to Evans’ work here as both star and director that makes some of the cutesy moments in his and Eve’s burgeoning relationship a little tough to take – I’m not really sure either character is interesting or well-rounded enough to be believable as “love at first sight” protagonists compelled to spend a night together, and tellingly there’s a point where Evans takes the characters into a round of emotional confessions which don’t land at all because its impossible to get any sense of their history. As of 2026, we’d be about due for a follow-up film, but I’m not going to hold my breath!
