Bugonia
Take me back 10 years, and I never would have said that Stone would end up being Lanthimos’ perfect vessel, but she is outstanding here again, playing what becomes a very tricky and complex character, and evoking the perfect impetus for Plemons’ deranged conspiracy theorist; there’s a fascinating commentary here on the cold and reptilian nature of “corporate speak” that Stone personifies that ties very neatly into Lanthimos’ scathing (but oddly sympathetic) rendering of her captors, though the film falters a little at the finale by being a little too literal and on-the-nose in regards to the ultimate resolution (and the characters’ accompanying motives).
