Flat and dull buddy movie tries to coast on Pesci and Glover’s chemistry, and no doubt memories of LETHAL WEAPON, but it’s too tepid and unfocused to generate enough momentum to be a farce, and then an abrupt switch to treasure hunting in the second half bears all the hall-marks of two screenplays stitched together. It’s also difficult to tell who this is pitched at – there’s a soft and juvenile quality to the characters and humour which suggests its for kids, though the plotting the characters face seems targeted at an adult audience, which means it sits in the middle, destined to please no-one. Cain shows the flicker of a good eye for staging gags (the sight of a person ghoulishly going up in flames nonchalantly in the background is well done), and Pesci and Glover are likable enough, and even mine a few sympathetic laughs.
