In the Army Now
Passable Shore comedy is (careful what you wish for) a little too benign and sleepy, with none of the snarky conflict you might expect, especially with a surprisingly subdued Dick as the co-star, but if accepted on the basis of its unambitious aims, it’s an enjoyable enough watch, with Shore acquitting himself nicely and dropping his “weasel” persona. Highlight is Whitfield’s Lee Ermey impression, which brings such a genuine boost of energy and excitement that it’s a shame she isn’t given space to figure more prominently in the screenplay.
