The entirety of my very generous score is for the nostalgic delight I took in seeing Neill, Dern and Goldblum reunited – they’re great fun together and apart, reminding me what it was like to be an excited pre-teen when the first film was released, and had this film dared to make them the stars, I would have been even more generous. This is otherwise a tired, somewhat sad and bloated affair (especially in the extended cut’s sprawl towards 3 hours) which spends an alarming amount of time on plodding exposition, and keeping its dinosaur stars out of any meaningful action for too long, instead focusing on a half-baked conspiracy plot which has essentially been covered multiple times before in earlier chapters (cleverest touch – the symmetry that Scott’s final scene has with another character’s final scene from the first chapter). Time to shut the park for good, I think!
