A typical Turkish comedy in many ways – loud, clanging and almost aggressively abrasive, as embodied by Gökbakar’s shambling, oafish lead. However, as it progresses and beds in, it becomes clear that his performance is really part of the joke – so overblown and over-exaggerated, it almost becomes endearing, in a Sasha Baron Cohen/Borat kind of way; this is still far from my favourite brand of comedy, but in balance I can at least respect what the Gökbakar brothers are aiming for here, even if I don’t think they quite hit the mark.
