Imaginative but ugly and heavy-handed fantasy that almost suffocates under its heaping plates of whimsy – I generally run screaming in the other direction from whimsy, so take from that what you will, but combined with the harsh character design which seems inspired by the ugliest of industrial refuse stations, it all becomes a bit of a dreary slog, especially when it is never quite clear what the rules of the fantasy world are, or indeed what Helena’s ultimate aim is/should be. Amusing cameos from the likes of Brydon, Fry and Henry are occasional refreshments in the desert.
