Out Cold

Of all the movies in all the world, why CASABLANCA? The poster says “Animal House on Ice” which pretty much sums this up, though there’s a softer, more genteel approach to the comedy and characters which is surprising for a post-PIE raunch comedy and makes the film more endearing, and all the funnier when it lands its set piece moments; in a HANGOVER dry run, Galifianakis steals every opportunity handed to him, leading to a scene in a hot-tub which is just about masterfully executed, only topped by a reaction shot from Koechner that brings the house down! A fun cast, headed by London and Dhavernas, help enormously; even Majors seems to relish the opportunity to play the Murray Hamilton role.
