Planet 51
Endearingly strange and eccentric combo of alien invasion and send-up of the 50s reminds me of LAST ACTION HERO in its effort to find the narrowest Venn diagram for its audience – but if you do have a soft spot for 50s sci-fi, and kiddie centred animation, this is about as good a version of this concept as you could hope for, with plenty of sly digs and quips which keep the film consistently entertaining, though petering out in the last third as we switch to a bit of crash bang. Voice cast all seem to be having a ball, with Long and Johnson making for the perfect team.
