Presque Rien
A standard issue, coming-of-age queer movie circa turn of the century, and hobbled by what you might call a very 90s sense of ostentatious liberation. Lifshitz goes out of his way to alienate his audience by telling the central romance in a jagged, time-hopping way which is confusing at first, and difficult to find involving because no effort is made to connect the timelines together in a way that resonates; a straight telling (as it were) might have helped the movie play as a still conventional, but more involving saga of loves found and lost. Nicely performed by Elkaïm and Rideau who almost make you forget that this story has been told many times before, in almost any combination of gender identities as exist.
